Las Vegas Tips - note from the editor
My first trip to Las Vegas was in November 2004. This is when I
realized that I would need to come back again and again. There was
just too much to see and do here. One trip was not enough. In fact I
was totally overwhelmed by this fascinating city. So I fell in love with
las Vegas and started to learn as much about this city as I could, and
since I enjoy sharing my experiences with others that's why I created
this website. This website contains many unique features not found
anywhere else. I hope you will enjoy all that Las Vegas Tips has to
offer and share my goal, Do Vegas Right!!!

Coupons
In Las Vegas coupons are everywhere. The Hotels and
Casinos will give you coupon books or fun books. Coupons
can also be found in all the magazines. Sometimes special
offers are handed out on the streets too. Joining Players
Clubs is an other way to get coupons and freebies. All
casinos have players clubs and joining one is always free.
When you join you will get a players card that you can
insert in the slot machines or present to the dealer at a
table. This will earn you points that can be used towards
buffets or discounts for rooms and other things. When I visit
Sin City I usually save about $200 to $300 just by using
coupons and fun books. I strongly recommend you take
advantage of the casino coupons and giveaways. Below are
some links to sites that offer coupons and additional Vegas
info.

Tipping Guidelines
My Friends always ask me
how do you know how
much to tip. So below I
have listed some
suggestions on how to tip.
Casinos: If you get lucky
and win at a slot or video
poker machine and are
handed the money in
person it is customary to
tip about 3-5%. Dealers
can be tipped a few chips
before leaving the table. If
your wining you can tip a
chip or two after a pot is
won in poker or after you
win a hand at any other
table game like 21. It is
also nice to tip the cashier
when cashing in your
chips. Don't forget to tip
the waitress or bartender
who are bring you those
free drinks. They usually
get $1 to $2 per drink. Your
server will appreciate the
tip and provide you with
even better service.
Hotels: When you arrive at
your hotel the first person
you will see is the bellman
and doormen. As soon as I
leave the taxi or shuttle I
give my bags to the bellman
and usually tip them $1 to
$2 per bag. I then proceed
to the front desk and check
in. If the person at the front
desk gives me a free
upgrade or some free
amenities I tip them about
$20. I always ask for if
there are any free upgrades
available while showing my
roll of bills and wallet.
Don't be surprised at how
many freebies you may
receive. I feel that the most
important person to tip is
your maid. I tip the Maid
about $1 to $2 per day or
$20 for the entire stay.
Some people tip the maid
daily or at the end of their
stay. I like to tip my maid
as soon as possible because
I have found that if you tip
her at the beginning of
your trip you will receive
much better service. Not to
mention more towels. Room
service usually receives the
standard 15 to 20%.
Washroom attendants
should receive $.50 to $1
for handing you a towel or
for offering a cologne or
mint.
Transportation: I usually tip
taxi drivers $2 minimum
for fares below $10. If the
fare is higher than $10 you
should tip 15 to 20%. I also
give the driver $1 to $2 for
each bag that he handles.
Limo drivers receive $5
minimum and the standard
15 to 20%. Shuttle drivers
or sky caps receive $1 to $2
per bags. Valets are usually
tipped $2 to $5.

Conventions:
Las Vegas is certainly the most popular
convention destination in the world and maybe
even considered the convention capital. In the
1950's the city leaders realized the need for a
convention center. The initial idea for bringing
conventions to Las Vegas was to boost tourism
during the slow months. The site that was
chosen for the first convention center was one
block east of the Las Vegas Strip. The first
convention building was a 6,300 seat
silver-domed rotunda which included a 90,000
square feet exhibit hall. This first convention
center opened in April 1959 and demolished in
1990. The new convention center that replaced
it is now the largest in the world with
1,600,000 square feet with 1,300,000 square
feet for exhibitors. When the Landmark Hotel
and Casino was imploded in 1998 it created
more parking space for the now expanded
convention center. The latest expansion in 2004
created four bridges over Desert Inn Road. This
expansion increased the Las Vegas Convention
Center by another 1,300,000 square feet. The
Las Vegas Convention Center is about to
undergo it's 14th expansion. The expansion will
cost about $890 million.
Although Las Vegas is a great place to have a
convention it does bring a lot more people to
sin city and you might prefer to visit when a
big convention is not in town, so use this link
to check when a convention is in town.
